Nigel here. Am 38 and first noticed my stutter when i was in my early teens. Was a big source of embarassment for me in mid to late teens. Read up on the subject and discovered ways of dealing with it such as avoiding certain words and situations, thinking about what i was going to say before hand etc.... and managed to adopt a way of speaking where now people who meet me probably would not know i have a stutter.
However i can always feel it bubbling under the surface and sometimes it does sneak out. My stuttering in my teens has had a large effect on my life and i am sure it has made me less confident in social situations, less confident generally. But i will keep fighting it!!!!!
it's great you've found ways to manage your stutter - did it take long to accomplish it? My stammer isn't particular letters or words - there's just repetitions in every syllable - very annoying!
Did you get speech therapy? Or have you managed to control it by yourself?
I've recently set up my own blog on how I'm coping with my stutter etc, if you're interested please feel free to drop by and have a read - stammerheadshark.wordpress.com
