Stuttering Can't Stop Me!

Online place for stutterers (& their advocates) aspiring to achieve their dreams

hello everyone, I used to stutter. In fact for 50 years I stuttered. I had my thyroid removed and now I don't. Most of my life I had undiagnosed hyperthyroidism. It wasn't until after they removed alot of my thryoid that my stuttering stopped. But I do know where most of you are at. I was there! Instead of becoming a MD or a lawyer, I became a PA. The physician assistant field is full of wonderful people, but I often wonder what I would of done if I didn't have a speech impediment. I know alot of you don't think of it as an impediment, but in the medical field we do. I'm still working on my fluency, I have to retrain my brain that I no longer stutter. I have to say my life is very different now. I no longer have anxieties about using the phone, or asking a question in front of a crowd. I do remember those days though. I have been fluent for one year. but it's been a great year. Before this I almost invested in the speecheasy, but it is costly. My best wishes to the best of you.

Not too long ago The Doctors tv talk show had a segment on stuttering. They introduced the speecheasy on their program. The speecheasy has been around for awhile with excellent results however now its improved and more user friendly. I encourage everyone with a stutter to try this device out. If it works hooray! If not well there are other treatments waiting in the wings I'm sure. I'm still working on my fluency and have a long way to go. My heart goes out to the gentleman who has been through interview after interview. He should go to the americans with disabilities website and contact them to see if they can help in any way. In the meantime remember everyone what comes naturally to most people (fluency) we have to work real hard at.

Yes, even now when I'm tired my stutter will come back. Now that I'm menopausal I guess you can say I'm tired alot. the fact that your 28 means to me that you have alot of wonderful life ahead of you. Relationships are always emotional rollercoasters, even when their good. Hopefully you'll find a way through this difficult time with family and friends. Find someone who will listen and just talk and talk. Find something that makes you feel good and start moving your life in that direction. Remember this isn't something that your going to get over overnight. Good luck!
