Stuttering Can't Stop Me!

Online place for stutterers (& their advocates) aspiring to achieve their dreams

Well... I selected "Sure!" from the list when signing up. So I guess I should fulfil my promise and introduce myself.
I'm Burt. French. 38. Married, 2 children. Stutterer for as long as I remember. It was hard in the begining, when I was young (way way way ago :( ). But I think I've done a lot of way towards acceptance and this has reflected very well on my speech.
I hope to find even more help and support from this place. I ask you all to forgive me in advance: being a dinosaur, I'm not so much into social networks, so I may make some technical mistakes here and there. I promise I will behave though.

I hope to have the pleasure to read from you guys soon !

Hi Augusto. I don't really know what to say about what you are going to encounter. It there was a "standard" route, I guess it would be too easy. I think that in any event founding a family and these kinds of things help a lot in starting the inner way towards being at peace with our own problems, including obviously the stutter. Having said that, I don't it does not have to be a starting point. And its not everything either. I also found that there are many ups and downs in terms of have the confidence that we can achieve acceptance. So if you go down this route, don't expect it to be an even path.

I know I'm not heling a lot. Can I ask you if you had therapy?

You should not stop looking for a good one nonetheless. In my opinion, very short sessions are unlikely to do you good. I my case only work on the long run delivered tangible results. And it takes time to find the proper method.

If I may ask you, is it easy to find therapies in Cuba? I mean, I guess the system there is very different from ours in Europe. Can you chose your slp or is one appointed to you? Sorry if my question sound stupid (and I mean no disrespect to any system).

Well, I do understand that you don't want to go to some anonymous place to get therapy. Also for the doctors it must be difficult to have only complete stranger as patients. Isn't there some sort of association of people who stutter in Cuba? After all, I guess this kind of group with no political aim or purpose must be authorised, or I am wrong? (once again, don't feel compelled to reply if you have the feeling you are not in a position to answer)
