Hey! Im a freshmen in college and have been stuttering my whole life. I rarely talk about it and actually dont know why I joined this site...i normally would never make my problem known like this. Stuttering has made me very shy and afraid to be in new situations, especially in college. I think I want to become a speech pathologist but am not sure how that would turn out in the future. Im afraid that I will not get a job because people will not want help from me becasue I stutter myself and will see me as being "not normal". I guess you can say Im pretty self conscious about my stutter.

It's good you joined this site. Talk to others about the stutter is certianly goig to help you. It is easier to do online, but ideally it would be also good if, mayb later on, you also talked about it to your friends. In my case I think I made a big step forward when I started to address the issue with persons I loved, rather than try and hide it. Of course it also depends on whether you can hide your stutter or not (more severe stutterers can't in any situation).
There are many SLPs which are stutterers or ex stutterers. So you should not be afraid that people don't want help from you for this reason.
On the other hand, I believe that you should also not contrain yourself to have a job in the field of SLP. You stutter, but that does not mean you have to work with stutterers. You may, if you want, but you are free, and perfectly able, to find another job.
