Hello, My name is Eddie. I have been stuttering since I started talking. I have been through a lot of therapy from elementary school through college. I even went through a 3 week intensive therapy program at Hollins College in Virginia.
After the therapy ends I am fluent for awhile and then the fluency eventually falls apart.
When I arrived home from Virginia my family and friends had very high hopes. I was devastated when my new found fluency started slipping.
My family and friends tried to be supportive, but they could not help showing their disappointment
I had a job that I hated for most of my life. A lot of times I did feel alone.
I got married in 2006. My wife convinced me to quit my job and explore what I really wanted to do with my life. This was a very difficult time for me. I think I took every job test and talked to a lot of counselors.
I finally figured out what I wanted to do and went back to school to get my A+ certification and train to be a computer technician.
I now work for a computer company building and servicing computers. I love what I do. I found a career that I am passionate about. I also found great co-workers accept me for who I am.
Last year I joined the National Stuttering Association. I enjoy the meetings and I get a lot out of them. My wife Maria and I are going to our first NSA conference in July. We are very excited.
I have also decided to go back to speech therapy. I have to keep trying to work on my stuttering.
There are times that I still struggle with my stuttering, but it has made me the person who I am today.
I am interested in getting to know other people who stutter to share successes and to give support.
Talk to you soon....
Eddie
